Dinotoperla View in CoL sp. NSW1

( Fig. 28 View FIGURE 28 A–D)

Larva. Remarks. Morphologically and genetically distinct specimens but not associated with adults during this study. Location data suggest the specimens could be either a described species like D. arcuata , D. duplex , D. pseudodolichoprocta or an undescribed species. Genetically this species was sister to D. carpenteri , D. subserricauda , D. thwaitesi , D. walkeri and D. hirsuta . Specimens deposited in ANIC

Material examined: New South Wales: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park: 2 x larvae: McCarrs Creek at crossing of McCarrs Creek Road. -33.66231, 151.24919. Collected: 26-Oct-12, Collectors: J Mynott, Accession numbers: JMH1397, JMH1654.

Length: 5 mm.

Colour: Dark and light brown, head and pronotum with mottled appearance, some pale area (may possibly have reddish colouration).

Body: Robust; pronotum slightly wider than head; abdomen longer than thorax.

Head: Antennae as long as body, segments begin to elongate approx. by 20th–23rd, segments appear anteriorly darker after elongation. Head distinctly mottled only posterior to epicranial suture. Dorsal surface with short robust setae present.

Thorax: Pronotum quadrate, width greater than length; mottling in medial area. Meso- and meta-nota with raised pale bosses at base of wingpads. Dorsal surface of all thoracic segments with short robust setae present.

Legs: Femora and tibiae with fringe of long fine setae. Outer surface of femora with short robust setae present; a dark longitudinal stripe in upper area. Tibiae with dark band in proximal area; an incomplete dark longitudinal stripe in medial area.

Abdomen: Tergites 2–5, but especially 3 and 4 pale and often reddish; other tergites brown with a dark spot offcentre from medial line (2 per segment). Tergites with short robust setae present, similar setae present on hind margin of tergite and tergite X. Dark ‘V’ shaped pattern on tergite X, narrowing posteriorly and widening into a solid dark patch. Gills brownish-yellow. Cerci as long as abdomen, segments elongate by 8th segment and elongating rapidly to become very thin and narrow. Paraprocts long approx. 2 times basal width with straight margins.
