Pereonites two to six with one small dentiform apophysis in each corner, antero– and posterolaterally. Cheliped and pereopod 1 without exopodite. Female cheliped slender. Pereopod 1 with spiniform coxa; dactylus with some distal simple and long setae; unguis present.

Species. Acutihumerus cavooreni ( Băcescu and Absalao, 1985) (monotypic).

Type locality. The mouth of Rio Grande, Brazil (Fig. 1, number 1) .

Geographic distribution. Brazil; Patagonian Shelf/ Argentina, 20–50 m.

Remarks. Guţu (2006) erected Acutihumerus to receive Hemikalliapseudes cavooreni Băcescu and Absalao, 1985 based on details of the pereopod 1 dactylus. In Hemikalliapseudes the dactylus has a terminal tuft of sensory setae and lacks an unguis while Acutihumerus possesses an unguis and lacks a terminal tuft of sensory setae.

Guţu (1998, 2006) did not formally synonymize B. patagoniensis with A. cavooreni , so we hereby formally consider B. patagoniensis a subjective junior synonym of A. cavooreni . Araújo-Silva and Larsen (2010) considered Acutihumerus (= Bacescapseudes ) patagoniensis a valid species based on their cladistic analysis but we believe their data matrix is flawed. They scored A. patagoniensis as having a maxillule palp and the rest of the characters (all of them from the literature) they scored differently between the two are problematic in the following ways: visual elements often degrade over time in preservative (this is why they are not illustrated in a lot of kalliapseudid species, not because they are absent; the senior author noted this phenomenon when doing research on M. macsweenyi ); the size of the teeth on the cheliped dactylus has been shown to exhibit intraspecific variation (see Drumm and Heard, 2010); pleon size (e.g., as wide as pereon or narrower than pereon) can be very subjective depending on how the specimen is prepared on the slide. Băcescu and Absalao (1985) did not illustrate A. cavooreni as having lateral spines on the pleotelson, but they do illustrate the excavations and could have just missed them. We therefore follow the view of Guţu (2006) until material can be examined.

Antennule inner flagellum with two articles. Cheliped and pereopod 1 with exopodite. Pereopod 1 without spiniform coxa; dactylus with unguis and some distal setae. Dactylus of pereopods 2–5 with long setiform prolongation and some subterminal setae; unguis present, very small. Males with dimorphic cheliped, having very small carpus and very large propodus. Uropod exopodite with four articles.

Geographic distribution. Western Indian Ocean.

Species. Bacescapseudes adenaicus ( Băcescu, 1978) , B. brevidigitus Guţu, 1998 and B. grossidigitus Guţu, 2006 .
