Diagnosis (emended after Jensen 1979; Hope & Zhang 1995; Barnes et al. 2012; Fonseca & Bezerra 2014)
Sabatieriinae . Cuticle finely striated; punctations in cuticle may be also observed. Cephalic region short to elongated. Outer labial and cephalic setae in two distinct, separated crowns and usually equal in length. Buccal cavity minute and undifferentiated. Amphideal fovea multispiral, with 4.25–8.25 turns, often situated about two head diameters posterior to anterior end. Pharynx slender, cylindrical with more or less prominent terminal swelling, muscular or glandular. Spermatozoa usually oval to spindle shape; distinct cortical striation in spermatozoa may be observed. Spicules short, straight or slightly curved, weakly cuticularised and commonly less than one anal diameter in length. Gubernaculum weakly developed or not observed, small dorsal or dorso-caudal apophyses may be present in some species. Pre-cloacal supplements as minute papillae or absent. Tail conicocylindrical.
