Type material. Holotype MCZ 245 (Scudder’s no. 11204), deposited in MCZ; most of the body preserved in dorsal aspect and anterior parts of all four wings.

The specimen-bearing rock is mounted on thick paper, which is in turn mounted on another piece of shale. The fossil is covered by Canada balsam. Verbatim label data [typed]: (1) “Mus. Comparative Zoölogy, Cambridge / No. 245 / Tribochrysa vetuscula Scud. / Florissant Miocene”; (2) [handwritten]: “ 245 type Tribochrysa vetuscula Scud. / Florissant / Neuroptera : Chrysopidae ”. The specimen has red and black ink writing on the rock that says “11204 / 245”, and a red paper label glued to the rock that says “ Type.” .

Type locality and horizon. USA: Colorado: Teller County: Florissant (precise collecting locality unknown); Eocene , late Priabonian ; Florissant Formation .

Redescription. Head dorsally mostly dark brown. Eyes ca. 0.5 mm in diameter. Antennae longer than forewing (slightly> 10 mm). Pronotum transverse, laterally dark brown with pale middle fascia. Mesonotum mostly dark brown with pale middle fascia. Metanotum mostly dark brown. Legs, abdomen fragmentary preserved.

Forewing 7.1 mm long as preserved (right wing; estimated complete length 12–13 mm). Costal space moderately broad, most dilated at level of basal crossvein 1ra-rp. Subcostal veinlets simple proximad pterostigmal region, rather widely spaced. Subcostal space moderately narrow; subcostal crossveins not detected. RA space broad, with two crossveins proximad RP1. Anterior trace of RP slightly zigzagged proximally. Basal crossvein between RP, M (1r-m) rather short, connecting anterior trace of RP, MA within im near fork of M (right wing), just proximad im or at its proximal end (left wing; poorly discernible). M appears fused with R basally; curved inward before its fork; dividing to MA, MP far distad origin of RP. MA fused with RP1 at Psm in right wing; these veins separate in left wing, connected by relatively long crossvein. Crossvein between MA, MP (1im) moderately long. Im elongate (length/width ratio 3.63 in right wing, 4.44 in left wing). Psm poorly developed, zigzagged. Crossvein 2m-cu connecting im, CuA at nearly proximal one-fifths length of im. CuA probably with two branches (proximal-most branch in right wing shallowly forked). CuP probably deeply forked (anterior branch preserved). 2icu located far proximad 2m-cu. A1 fragmentarily preserved. Gradate series of crossveins almost not preserved.

Hind wing very poorly preserved. No significant characters discernible.
