Asianthrips nobilis View in CoL sp. n.
( Figs 15–16 View FIGURES 11–22 , 94–100 View FIGURES 94–100 )
Female macroptera. Body bicoloured whitish yellow and brown ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 11–22 ). Mesothorax, anteromedian portion of metanotum, pleural regions of metathorax and anterolateral portions of abdominal tergite II brown; the remaining of body largely whitish yellow. Antennal segments I to III whitish yellow, but inner side of segment I shade with brown, segment III very weakly shaded distally; the remaining segments brown, but short pedicel of segment IV slightly pale. Legs largely whitish yellow, but fore femora very weakly shaded, mid and hind femora weakly shaded distally. Fore wings and prominent body setae almost colourless. Head ( Fig. 94 View FIGURES 94–100 ) as long as wide; dorsal surface sculptured with transverse reticulation, but ocellar triangle with very weak polygonal reticulation. Cheeks weakly incut behind eyes, weakly rounded, narrowed to base. Postocular setae shorter than eye. Postocellar setae almost as long as a diameter of posterior ocellus. Eyes well developed, 0.42–0.43 times as long as head. Ocelli well developed. Antennal segments VII and VIII broadly fused, segment VIII not constricted at base ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 94–100 ); segment III with three sense cones. Maxillary stylets retracted into head capsule, but not reaching postocular setae, rather wide apart, much wider than 1/3 of the head width apart at the basal collar of head; maxillary bridge indistinct. Pronotum 0.59 times as long as head, 2.02 times as wide as long; pa about 1/2 of the median pronotal length, a little shorter than epim. Prospinasternum well developed. Mesopresternum and mesoeusternum ( Fig. 99 View FIGURES 94–100 ) narrowly fused medially, with rather long sutures (37–38 microns) between them at both sides. Metanotum weakly sculptured with polygonal reticulation. Fore tarsi unarmed. Fore wings with 5–7 duplicated cilia. Pelta ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 94–100 ) very weakly developed, bell-shaped. Tergites moderately developed, tergites II to VII much wider than pronotum. S1 and S2 setae on tergite IX weakly expanded at apex, S2 a little longer than S1. Tube ( Fig. 100 View FIGURES 94–100 ) 0.56 times as long as head. Anal setae a little shorter than tube.
Measurements. Female holotype (mac.) in microns. Distended body length 1670. Head length 158, width across cheeks 158. Compound eye dorsal length 66–68. Pronotum length 93, width 188. Fore wing length about 640. Tube length 88, width across base 52. Antenna length 335, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 51 (27), 54 (28), 47 (25), 42 (22), 36 (21), 22 (14). Postocular setae 50–55. Pronotal aa about 40, am 37–38, ml 43–44, pa 47, epim about 50. S1 setae on tergite IX 62–63, S2 setae on tergite IX 66–66. Anal setae 82–83.
Female microptera. Colour very similar to macropterous female ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 11–22 ); antennal segment I and II shaded with pale brown; mesothorax pale brown; metanotum entirely yellow; intermediate abdominal segments weakly shaded with brown laterally. Head ( Fig. 95 View FIGURES 94–100 ) small, a little longer than wide. Cheeks subparallel. Eyes small, 0.32 times as long as head. Ocelli absent. Maxillary stylets almost reaching postocular setae, closer together than macropterous female, about 1/3 of head width apart at the basal collar of head. Maxillary bridge indistinct and narrow, not arched. Pronotum about 0.7 times as long as head, 1.7 times as wide as long. Metanotum ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 94–100 ) much wider than long, with rather distinct polygonal reticulation. Pelta wider, trapezoid. Tergites without sigmoid wing retaining setae. Anal setae almost as long as tube or a little longer.
Measurements. Female paratype (mic.) in microns. Distended body length 1520. Head length 140, width across cheeks 131. Compound eye dorsal length 45. Pronotum length 100, width 170. Fore wing length 85. Tube length 85, width across base 50. Antenna length about 310, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 43 (27), 49 (28), 42 (25), 42 (22), 40 (19), 26 (13). Postocular setae about 50. Pronotal aa about 30, am 40–43, ml about 40, pa 49–50, epim?45. S1 setae on tergite IX 68–70, S2 setae on tergite IX about 70. Anal setae 85–90.
Type series. Holotype female (mac.): Indonesia, Bali Is., Buleleng, Desa Malanting , 30.viii.2005 (SO) . Paratypes: Indonesia, 1 female (mic.), Bali Is., Tabanan, Muncak Sari, Pura Luhur , 2.ix.2006 (SO) .
Remarks. In colour, A. nobilis resembles A. pallens newly described below from Taiwan. However, A. nobilis has the mesopresternum and mesoeusternum narrowly fused, whereas these are broadly fused in A. pallens .
