Female macroptera. Body brown ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11–22 ). Antennal segment III yellow, weakly shaded with brown at apical 1/2, segment IV somewhat yellowish at basal 1/3, the remainings of antennae brown. All femora brown, concolourous with body; tibiae yellow, weakly shaded with brown medially; all tarsi yellow. Fore wings very weakly shaded with brown; body setae pale. Head ( Fig. 88 View FIGURES 88–93 ) almost as long as wide, but a little longer than wide in paratype female, 1.08 times as long as wide (see Remarks); dorsal surface sculptured with transverse reticulation, the reticles very weak between eyes, with longitudinal weak reticulation or striae between posterior ocelli. Cheeks very weakly rounded, weakly narrowed to base. Postocular setae longer than eye. Postocellar setae almost as long as a diameter of posterior ocellus or shorter. Eyes 0.41–0.42 times as long as head in holotype. Antennal segments VII and VIII somewhat broadly fused, segment VIII not constricted basally, cone-shaped ( Fig. 90 View FIGURES 88–93 ); segment III with three sense cones. Maxillary stylets short and V-shaped, similar to those of Bamboosiella species, retracted only to basal collar of head. Pronotum ( Fig. 88 View FIGURES 88–93 ) 0.73 times as long as head and 1.92 times as wide as long in holotype; epim the longest; pa about 1/2 of the median pronotal length. Metanotum polygonally reticulated anteriorly, but weak, longitudinally reticulated posteriorly. Prospinasternum well developed. Mesopresternum and mesoeusternum ( Fig. 91 View FIGURES 88–93 ) comparatively widely fused medially, with distinct sutures between them at both sides. Fore tarsi unarmed. Fore wings with 5–5 duplicated cilia. Tergites comparatively small ( Fig. 92 View FIGURES 88–93 ), but tergites III–V wider than pronotum (tergite V of holotype almost as wide as pronotum, but this may be due to cover slip pressure). S1 setae on tergite IX a little longer than S2, 0.76–0.79 times as long as tube, S1 weakly expanded, S2 very weakly expanded at apex. Tube ( Fig. 93 View FIGURES 88–93 ) 0.71 times as long as head. Anal setae almost as long as tube.

Measurements. Female holotype (mac.) in microns. Distended body length about 2000. Head length 171, width across cheeks 170. Compound eye dorsal length 70–71. Pronotum length 125, width 240. Fore wing length about 860. Tube length 121, width across base 60. Antenna length 395, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 58 (30), 65 (30), 53 (27), 50 (25), 46 (22), 31 (15). Postocular setae 73–79. Pronotal aa 42–45, am 43–44, ml 57–62, pa 63–63, epim 70–70. S1 setae on tergite IX 92–96, S2 setae on tergite IX 85–92. Anal setae about 120.

Male macroptera. Very similar in colour and structure to macropterous female, but body smaller. Fore tarsi unarmed. Anal setae longer than tube.

Measurements. Male paratype (mac.) in microns. Distended body length 1550. Head length 155, width across cheeks 142. Compound eye dorsal length 65. Pronotum length 100, width 171. Fore wing length about 710. Tube length?80, width across base 50. Antenna length 355, segments III–VIII length (width) as follows: 53 (27), 55 (28), 47 (25), 48 (22), 42 (20), 30 (14). Postocular setae?55. Pronotal aa?, am?, ml?, pa about 50, epim?55. S1 setae on tergite IX about 80, S2 setae on tergite IX 33–36. Anal setae 100–110.

Type series. Holotype female (mac.): Peninsular Malaysia, Cameron Highland, nr. Tanah Rata, on dead leaves and branches, 30.viii.1990 (TN & SO) . Paratypes: Peninsular Malaysia, 1 female (mac.) and 1 male (mac.), Cameron Highland, foot of Gnung Jasar, on dead leaves and branches, 19.ix.1990 (TN & SO) .

Non-paratypic specimen. Peninsular Malaysia, 1 female (mic.), Cameron Highland , Pahang, ex. Fogging , 15.vii.2003 (H. Kojima) .

Remarks. Because the holotype female of A. malayanus is slightly compressed by cover slip pressure, the width of the head and pronotum have been changed slightly. It is very similar to A. bamboosielloides from Vietnam in having the very short maxillary stylets which are scarcely retracted to the basal collar of head, but the latter species is quite dissimilar in the yellow abdomen. One micropterous female ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 11–22 & 89 View FIGURES 88–93 ) listed as a non-paratypic specimen is a little damaged, and is possibly a microptera of the same species.
