Patellapis (Patellapis) rubricata sp. n. Timmermann

( Figs. 8a–g View FIGURE 8 ; 9a–h View FIGURE 9 )

Diagnosis. The females differ from those of P. depressa and P. gessorum in lacking a median longitudinal clypeal depression. Further, the inner hind tibial spurs of P. rubricata are more coarsely serrate than in P. depressa and P. gessorum . The males of P. rubricata can be easily distinguished from those of P. depressa by the size and structure of the gonostylus and flagellomeres A3 and A4. The gonostylus of P. rubricata has a large, dorso-lateral projection (simple in P. depressa ) and A4 is as long as A3 (A4 about twice as long as A 3 in P. depressa ). Both sexes of P. rubricata differ markedly from P. bifurcata in their larger body length. The males of P. rubricata are closely related to those of P. pseudorubricata . The males of P. pseudorubricata differ from those of P. rubricata in having a larger body length, a broader apical plate and a scopa-like vestiture on the hind tibia. (long, dense, and branched hairs). Further, the penis valves of P. pseudorubricata are simple in size, whereas those of P. rubricata are dorsally enlarged with a hyaline membrane.

Description

Female. Bl = 7,2–7,7mm. General habitus ( Fig. 8e View FIGURE 8 ). Head. L = 1,8–1,9mm; W = 2,2–2,3mm. Head wider than long ( Fig. 8a View FIGURE 8 ). Integument black except mandibles sometimes partly reddish-brown. Face shiny and with loose, long, greyish, erect hairs. Mandibles bidentate. Malar area very short, linear. Clypeus and supraclypeal area convex in profile (sometimes supraclypeal area weakly convex). Clypeus strongly and sparsely punctate (i = 1,5–2,0d). Clypeoantennal distance 0,4mm. Supraclypeal area sparsely punctate (i = 1,5–2,0d); surface partly sculptured. Paraocular area strongly and densely punctate; surface partly sculptured. Antennae mostly brownish. Mesosoma. L = 1,4–1,5mm; W (ITS) = 1,7–1,8mm. Integument black. Scutum polished; surface partly reticulate anteriorly; disc strongly and sparsely punctate (i = 1,5–2,0d) ( Fig. 8b View FIGURE 8 ). Scutellum as illustrated in Fig. 8c View FIGURE 8 . Scutum, scutellum and metanotum with long, greyish to brownish, erect hairs; mesepisternum and propodeum with long, greyish, erect hairs. Basal area of propodeum as illustrated in Fig. 8c View FIGURE 8 ; propodeum shiny and densely punctate; surface finely sculptured. Marginal region of posterior truncation shiny; finely reticulate. Wings. Hyaline. Legs. Integument mostly brownish. Vestiture greyish to brownish. Ts moderately finely serrate with about 10 oblique projections ( Fig. 8f View FIGURE 8 ). Bp broad and pointed at apex ( Fig. 8g View FIGURE 8 ).

Metasoma. L = 3,6–4,2mm; W = 2,5–2,6mm. Integument mostly reddish-brown except the margins of T pallid reddish-brown to pallid yellowish (some specimens have the metasomal terga completely reddish to pale reddish); margins extensively translucent. Apical hair bands on T1–T4 hardly existent (at most weakly developed). Prepygidial fimbria yellowish to brownish ( Fig. 8d View FIGURE 8 ).

Male. Bl = 7,2–7,6mm. General habitus ( Fig. 9e View FIGURE 9 ). Head. L = 1,8–1,9mm; W = 2,2–2,4mm. Head wider than long. Integument black except mandibles sometimes partly reddish-brown. Clypeus, supraclypeal area, paraocular area and vertex covered with erect, greyish to yellowish hairs; the lower half of paraocular area, supraclypeal area and clypeus also covered with appressed, whitish hairs. Mandibles simple. Malar area very short, linear. Antennae brownish-black. Flagellomeres of normal structure, not knotty. A4 about as long as A3.

Mesosoma. L = 1,5–1,6mm; W (ITS) = 1,7–1,8mm. Integument black. Scutum polished; strongly and sparsely punctate (i = 1,5–2,0d) ( Fig. 9a View FIGURE 9 ). Scutellum as illustrated in Fig. 9b View FIGURE 9 . Scutum, scutellum, metanotum, mesepisternum and propodeum with long, greyish to yellowish, erect hairs. Basal area of propodeum as illustrated in Fig. 9b View FIGURE 9 ; propodeum shiny, strongly and densely punctate; surface finely sculptured. Marginal region of posterior truncation shiny and reticulate. Wings. Hyaline. Legs. Integument brownish to black. Vestiture greyish to yellowish. Metasoma. L = 4,0– 4,5mm; W = 2,4–2,5mm. Integument brownish-black except the margins of T pallid brownish; margins extensively translucent ( Fig. 9c View FIGURE 9 ). Apical plate broad and pointed apically. Posterior margin of S4 with a row of strong, erect bristles; medial bristles nearly appressed (superficially it looks like a medial interruption of the row of bristles); metasomal sternum S5 with small, erect hair patches laterally ( Fig. 9d View FIGURE 9 ). S7 and S8 as illustrated in Fig. 9f View FIGURE 9 . Genitalia. Genitalia as illustrated in Fig. 9g –h View FIGURE 9 ; gonocoxa dull and gonostylus with dorso-lateral projection.
