( Figs 24 View FIGURES 20 – 25. 20 – 21 , 37)

Trypanidius maculatus Monné & Delfino, 1980: 319 ; Monné, 2005: 145.

Description. Male. Dark brown integument. Body covered with grayish-brown pubescence except for dark brown pubescence in two rounded spots close to anterior margin of pronotum (sometimes with an additional two close to posterior margin), on sides of scutellum, elytral spot around scutellum, spot on basal third close to elytral suture and a spot (may be divided into two) posterior to median region; grayish pubescence on scape, on basal half of the antennomeres 3–11 and in median ring on tibiae; whitish pubescence in a transverse band at beginning of apical fourth of elytra and in longitudinal rows of tufts of pubescence on elytra.

Frons slightly convex, lower eye lobes as long as genae and two erect setae at most on inner margin. Antennae with scape 1.3 times longer than antennomere 3.

Prothorax 1.6 times wider than long; pronotum anteriorly elevated. Scutellum with slightly rounded apex. Prosternal process two times narrower than procoxal cavity; mesosternal process as wide as mesocoxal cavity.

Elytra 3.4 times longer than prothorax, centro-basal crest and longitudinal carinae indistinct; apex obliquely truncate with outer angles projected.

Measurements (mm). (Male/Female). Total length: 8.3/8.4; prothorax length: 1.6/1.6; prothorax width: 2.8/ 2.9; elytral length: 6/6; humeral width: 3.3/3.3.

Type locality. Brazil, Pará: Jacareacanga (MNRJ).

Geographical distribution. Venezuela, Brazil (Pará, Mato Grosso), Paraguay.

Comments. Trypanidius maculatus differs from congeners by the color pattern of the pubescence of the body, the anteriorly elevated pronotum and the frons being slightly convex. The other species have the pronotum with two elevated ridges converging anteriorly with a postmedian elevation between them or with three elevations, two along the median line and one post-median, and also have the frons flat or strongly convex.
