TYPE LOCALITY: Australia, Western Australia, Dirk Hartog Island (Shark Bay) .

DISTRIBUTION: Formerly in Dampier Land (Western Australia), South Australia, Dirk Hartog Isl, Barrow Isl, Bernier and Dorre Isis, Northern Territory, and SW New South Wales ( Australia); now extinct except on W Australian Isis.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Rare.

SYNONYMS: anhydra , graii , harveyi.

COMMENTS: Commonly misspelt “lesueuri", but the original spelling is lesueur , with no indication that it is an error.
