Ostracion auritus Shaw, 1798 : plate 338 (islands of the Pacific Ocean [but probably Tasmania).

Aracana aurita — Klunzinger 1880: 424 (Port Darwin).

One specimen from N of Snake Bay, Melville Island (locality data may be erroneous). Klunzinger’s specimen may have come from Port Philip , Victoria ( Larson and Williams 1997) .
