Thiodina Simon, 1900 View in CoL View at ENA

Thiodina Simon, 1900: 392 View in CoL (type species by original designation: Attus elegans Nicolet, 1849 = Thiodina nicoleti Roewer, 1951 View in CoL ); Simon 1901: 458 (redescription and key to related groups); Peckham & Peckham 1909; Wolff 1985; Richman & Vetter 2004; Nogueira 2003; Hill 2012.

Not Nilakantha Peckham & Peckham, 1901 View in CoL (See below).

Not Colonus F. O.P.- Cambridge, 1901 (See below).

Note. With the species transferred to Cotinusa Simon View in CoL and to the newly revalidated Colonus and Nilakantha View in CoL (see below), Thiodina View in CoL presently includes only its type species.

Relationships: Thiodina nicoleti View in CoL resembles Arachnomura adfectuosa Galiano, 1977 View in CoL and Cyllodania bicruciata Simon, 1902 View in CoL for having spine-like setae on the anterior face of the proximal article of the chelicera (see Figs 4, 5 View FIGURES 1 – 8 , 9 View FIGURES 9 – 13 ; Galiano 1977, figs 11, 14). It also resembles Titanattus pallidus Mello-Leitão, 1943 View in CoL for the shape and markings on carapace ( Figs 1, 4 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ; Edwards et al. 2005, figs 1, 44, 45). Based on these characters and the depression on inner portion of chelicerae, this species appears to be related to genera presently considered as hyetussines (see Galiano 1966, 1976a, 1976b). A systematic review of this group, currently in progress (AAB & GRSR), can clarify the boundaries of genera and internal relationships of the group, allowing a better understanding of the position and composition of Thiodina View in CoL .

Diagnosis. Among all already described members presently considered as hyetussines, Thiodina can be distinguished for including the only species with a strong pattern of dark/clear longitudinal stripes on the abdomen of both sexes ( Figs 1, 8 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ).
