Prodorsal shield 47 (46–49), 70 (69–72) wide; prodorsal shield with acuminate frontal lobe; median line absent, admedian and submedian lines present, transverse line anteriad of vertical lines. Dorsal tubercles on rear shield margin, 43 (42–43) apart, scapular setae (sc) 24 (23–25) projecting posteriorly. Coxae: coxal plates with many dashes; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 10 (10–11), proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 25 (23–26), proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 40 (35–43). Sternal line absent. Legs with all series of setae. Legs I 40 (38–42), femur 11 (10–11), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 15 (14–16); genu 6 (5–6), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 30 (28–31); tibia 11 (10–11), paraxial tibial setae (l’) 9 (8–9), located 1/3 from dorsal base; tarsus 8 (7–8); tarsal empodium simple, 4rayed, tarsal solenidion knobbed. Legs II 35 (33–37), femur 11 (10–11), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 18 (17–18); genu 5 (4–5), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 12 (11–13); tibia 10 (9–11); tarsus 8 (7–8); tarsal empodium simple, 4rayed, tarsal solenidion knobbed. Opisthosoma: dorsal opisthosoma with 36 (35–37) annuli, with elliptical microtubercles ahead of rear annular margins, ventrally with 63 (60–65) annuli, with pointed microtubercles on rear annular margins. Setae c2 30 (28–31) on ventral annulus 15; setae d 40 (35–43) on ventral annulus 25; setae e 25 (23–26) on ventral annulus 43; setae f 30 (28–31) on 5th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 3 (3–4). Types

Holotype, female, from Platycarya strobilacea Sieb. & Zucc. (Juglandaceae) , Tianchi Mountain (34°16.78’N, 111°50.09’E), Song County, Henan Province, P. R. China, 12 July 2004, coll. X.F. Xue. Paratypes, 5 females, with the same data as holotype.

Relation to host

Vagrant on leaf surface. No damage to the host was observed.

Etymology

Derived from the specific epithet of the type host plant, strobilacea .

Remarks

This species is similar to Aculops yinghuae Kuang, 2000 ( Kuang, 2000) , but can be differentiated by prodorsal shield with submedian lines (submedian lines absent in A. yinghuae ), coxal plates without sternal line (with sternal line in A. yinghuae ) and dorsal annuli with elliptical microtubercles (dorsal annuli smooth in A. yinghuae ).
