Buellia abstracta   has sometimes been treated incorrectly as Buellia sequax   (Nyl.) Zahlbr. ( Bungartz et al. 2007, Giralt et al. 2011), and it has been reported as such from southwestern Utah ( Bungartz et al. 2004). We have been unable to find reports of the species from the San Rafael Swell or other nearby areas.
