Brustiarius proximus (Ogilby, 1898)

Arius proximus   ZBK Ogilby, 1898: 280. Type locality: Darwin , Northern Terr., Australia. Holotype: AMS I.25691-001 .

Arius arafurensis   ZBK Hardenberg, 1948: 280. Type Locality: Fish market, Dobo, Aru Is. , Indo-Australian Archipelago. Holotype: whereabouts unknown.

Distribution: Southern New Guinea and northern Australia.

Countries: Papua New Guinea and Australia.

Habitat: Marine and brackish waters.

Maximum size: 410 mm TL.

Material examined: USNM 173568 (1 al, 356 mm TL), Australia, Northern Territory, night cliff, 7 mi north of Darwin, rocky coves, sandy beaches .
