CONTEXT AND CONTENT. Order Rodentia View in CoL , suborder Myomorpha View in CoL , family Cricetidae View in CoL , subfamily Sigmodontinae View in CoL . The genus Handleyomys View in CoL includes two species: H. fuscatus View in CoL and H. intectus View in CoL ( Voss et al. 2002; Weksler 2006; Weksler and Percequillo 2011; Almendra 2015; Gómez-Laverde et al. 2015). Even though some authors include up to seven additional species to this genus ( alfaroi View in CoL , chapmani , guerrerensis View in CoL , melanotis View in CoL , rhabdops View in CoL , rostratus View in CoL , and saturatior View in CoL — Almendra et al. 2014; Almendra 2015), molecular and morphological evidence suggest at least one new genus should be described to include these additional species ( Weksler 2006; Weksler and Percequillo 2011; Fabre et al. 2012; Almendra 2015; Weksler 2015). The following key for the two currently recognized species of Handleyomys View in CoL is adapted from Gómez-Laverde et al. (2015). 1. Hindfeet covered dorsally with dark-banded hairs distinctly visible under low magnification; nasals short, truncated posteriorly at or near the premaxillo-maxillary suture; interparietal broad (transverse dimension) relative to its depth (anteroposterior dimension)………………………………....…….. H. fuscatus Hindfeet View in CoL covered dorsally with pure-white or indistinctly pigmented hairs; nasals long, extending posteriorly well beyond the premaxillomaxillary suture; interparietal narrow (transverse dimension) relative to its depth (anteroposterior dimension)…..
