Material examined. Paratype series [ Tanzania]. ‘paratypus’ ‘m.1200, vii-1967 ’ ‘ Tanganika, m. te Kibo’ ‘ Paratypus’ ‘coll. mus. Tervuren’ ‘ Smicronyx kiboanus Voss coll. Osella’ (1 ♂, 3♀, RMCA). Other material. Tanzania, Katesh, south of Mount Hanang, 1850 m, 18/ 31.v.1957, P. Basilewsky & N Leleup leg. (1 ♂, RMCA) ; Kihurio , 80 km south of Same, 750 m, 15.v.1957 (1 ♂, RMCA) .

Diagnosis (♂). Body length 2.4–2.6 mm. Colour. Body integument entirely black; vestiture of elytra consisting of rounded, recumbent, overlapping brown and greyish scales, usually slightly paler on humeri, concealing integument of interstriae, and of a series of semi-erect brown scales on each interstria. Head. Rostrum almost straight in lateral view, robust, slightly thicker near antennal insertion in dorsal view than width of profemora near middle, as long as head capsule + prothorax. Prothorax. Slightly wider than long (w/l ratio: 1.07), sides rounded in basal 2/3, constricted in apical 1/3, width at base 1.6 time larger than at apical margin. Elytra. Widest before middle, slightly rounded (w/l ratio: 0.68). Legs. Femora moderately clavate, armed with small but distinct ventral tooth, tibiae straight. Genitalia. Penis short (w/l ratio: 0.68), sides straight, subparallel, converging near apex, greatly and regularly curved in lateral view ( Fig. 5N View FIGURE 5 ).

Life history. Unknown. Adults were collected in May and July. Distribution. Tanzania. Distribution. Smicronyx kiboanus is distinguishable from other species by its rostrum, which is slightly thicker near antennal insertion in dorsal view than the width of the profemora, and almost straight in lateral view ( Fig. 4F View FIGURE 4 ).
