Type material
Holotype male. CHINA: Yunnan Province, Eryuan County, Niujie Township, Futianlin , Meici River , (26°21’N, 100°02’E), 2262 m a.s.l., 23.vi.1996, light trap, C. Zhou (BDN no.10052) GoogleMaps . Etymology From Latin, fascia, ribbon and – atus, provided with, referring to the long and narrow inferior volsella.
Diagnostic characters
The prominent long, narrow inferior volsella, digitiform apical crista dorsalis and the single hind tibial spur will easily separate T. fasciata new species from other known species of the genus.
Description
Male (n = 4)
Total length 2.20–2.34, 2.26 mm. Wing length 1.40–1.45, 1.42 mm. Total length/wing length 1.52–1.65, 1.59. Wing length/length of profemur 2.45–2.63, 2.54. Coloration [slide mounted material]: head dark brown; thorax brown with darker vittae, median postnotum and preepisternum; wings light brown; abdominal segments and legs brown.
Head. AR 0.37–0.55, 0.48. Temporal setae 9–11, 10; including 3 inner verticals, 2 outer verticals, and 4–6, 5 postorbitals. Clypeus with 4–6, 5 setae. Tentorium 131–140, 136 µm long. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 21–32, 28; 33–38, 35; 61–68, 64; 52–65, 60; 108–120, 114.
Thorax. Antepronotum with 1–2, 1 lateral setae; acrostichals 11–12, 11; dorsocentrals 5–6, 5; prealars 2–3, 2. Scutellum with 1–5, 3 setae.
Wing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Anal lobe weak. VR 1.08–1.20, 1.14. Costal extension 28–35, 32 µm long. R with 4 setae, remaining veins bare. Squama with 6–7, 6 setae.
Legs. Spur of front tibia 33–38, 35 µm long, without denticles. Spurs of mid tibia 20–25, 23 µm and 15–25, 22 µm long; of hind tibia 43–48, 44 µm long; all with weak denticles. Hind tibial comb with 11–12, 11 setae. Two pseudospurs present on ta 1 and ta 2 of mid and hind legs. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 1.
Hypopygium ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Tergite IX with 12–13, 12 long setae. Phallapodeme straight, 58–70, 62 µm long; transverse sternapodeme vaulted, 75–93, 82 µm long, with oral projections. Virga well sclerotized, 8–12, 10 µm long, composed of cluster of 3–4, 4 spines. Gonocoxite 153–181, 169 µm long; inferior volsella long and narrow, with more than 8 long setae. Gonostylus 59–70, 66 µm long, with digitiform apical crista dorsalis; megaseta 7–10, 8 µm long ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). HR 2.47–2.59, 2.55; HV 2.45–2.46, 2.46.
Female and immatures: Unknown.
Distribution The specimens were collected in light traps in the Yunnan Province in Southwest China (Oriental Region).
