Notes

The separation of Anisarthrocera from Diaphorocera , a Saharan genus, needs con rmation (see Bologna, 1990). The two species of Anisarthrocera are quite diVerent from one another. A. batesi , a polytypic species, is distinctive and characterized by the shape of male foretibiae which bears a basal digitiform appendage. A. semirufa (Fairmaire, 1882) from N Somalia has unmodi ed tibiae and is diYcult to distinguish from Diaphorocera . Contrary to Kaszab (1951b), frontal calli are found in both Anisarthrocera and Diaphorocera and cannot be used to separate them.
