Taxonomy. Curletti (1990) proposed the name relegatus for a subspecies of A. dualis Alexeev & Bílý, 1980 from Crete. The new subspecies was distinguished by the difference in the color, by more prominent anterior lobe of pronotum and by bifid claws of posterior tarsi. Since then, numerous material of this taxon have been collected which considerably extends its geographical range and revealed its significant variability. The color of head and pronotum is sexually induced. In the male, it is greenish or bluish, in the female with golden-orange or reddish tinge. North European specimens are almost unicolored while those from Jordan are brightly bicolored. The length of prosternal lobe varies even within the series from the same locality. The type of metatarsal claws differs in the same species and specimens from the Crete have both type of claws. For this reason, specimens from Crete are considered conspecific with specimens from the mainland. The specific name dualis Alexeev & Bílý, 1980 is preoccupied and was replaced by the name alexeevi Bellamy, 1998. However, the name relegatus Curletti, 1990 has a priority and therefore it becomes the valid specific name of the species.
