Type Locality: Kenya, Mt. Nyiro, south of Lake Rudolf [Lake Turkana].
Vernacular Names: Nyiro Shrew.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.
Discussion: Regarded as a synonym of hildegardeae by Osgood (1936), but retained as a species by Heim de Balsac and Meester (1977), who noticed similarities to niobe .
