Remarks. Simon (1914) confused this species with Drassodes hispanus , which was also misidentified, when he noted the accidentally missing terminal embolar apophysis in several specimens (foot note p. 133: “Ce petit appendice paraît très fragile car il manque accidentellement chez beaucoup d’individus”). Examination of the male and female genitalia of the specimens listed below shows clearly that they belong to the new species described here.

Type material: Holotype: male from Spain, Segovia, La Granja , E. Simon, Simon collection n° 23822 ( MNHN AR 14601).

Paratypes: 1 3 and 2 Ƥ, same data as holotype ( MNHN AR 9256).

Other material examined. SPAIN. Segovia: 1 3, La Granja , E. Simon, Simon collection n° 21844 (paralectotype of D. cervinus ) ( MNHN AR 9215); 14 Ƥ, Col de Penalara, La Granja , June 1908, E. Simon, Simon collection n° 24481 ( MNHN AR 14602).

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition, taken from the type locality.

Diagnosis. Male of D. granja sp. nov. closely resembles other species having biaxial embolar coil, D. hypocrita , D. lesserti and D. validior , but differs by the absence of the enveloping scoop-shaped terminal apophysis and the coil slenderly twisted at the tip ( Figs 43–44 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ). Females may be distinguished by the clearly lip-shaped anterior tongue ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ) and the greater number of loops, more than four, of the coiled ducts ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ).

Description. Male dimensions (holotype): total length 9.00. Carapace 3.92 long, 2.98 wide. Leg I: femur 3.38, patella 1.69, tibia 3.27, metatarsus 2.69, tarsus 1.69, total 12.72. Leg II: femur 2.91, patella 1.56, tibia 2.42, metatarsus 2.14, tarsus 1.41, total 10.44. Leg III: femur 2.54, patella 1.31, tibia 1.94, metatarsus 1.91, tarsus 1.20, total 8.90. Leg IV: femur 3.44, patella 1.58, tibia 2.88, metatarsus 2.91, tarsus 1.44, total 12.25. Leg spination: femora: III r0-1-1; IV p0-0-1; tibiae: II v0-2-0; III v1 p-2-2; IV v1 p(2)-2-2; metatarsi: III p1(0)- 2-2. RTA bifid, superior prong short and regularly curved to the end, slightly longer than the blunt inferior prong ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ); median apophysis pointing inwards; embolar coil twice looped, spiralling upwards along two axes, without terminal apophysis, but slenderly twisted at the tip ( Figs 43–44 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ).

Female dimensions (paratype): total length 9.61. Carapace 4.23 long, 3.10 wide. Leg I: femur 3.17, patella 1.83, tibia 2.61, metatarsus 2.23, tarsus 1.56, total 11.40. Leg II: femur 3.04, patella 1.77, tibia 2.36, metatarsus 2.05, tarsus 1.44, total 10.66. Leg III: femur 2.79, patella 1.54, tibia 1.96, metatarsus 1.96, tarsus 1.27, total 9.52. Leg IV: femur 3.66, patella 1.71, tibia 3.01, metatarsus 3.09, tarsus 1.54, total 13.01. Leg spination: femora: III r0-1(0)-1; IV p0-0-1(0); tibiae: I v1 p(2)-2-0; II v0-2-0; III v1 p-2(1p)-2; IV v2 (1p)-2-2; metatarsi: III, IV p1(0)-2-2; IV v1 r(2)-1p-2, r1(0)-2-2. Atrium small, oval, often much wider than high (0.41–0.53 wide, 0.26–0.33 high, ratio 1.24–1.80); anterior tongue lip-shaped and slightly projecting posteriorly ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ); copulatory openings large, only visible when viewed from behind, scarcely separated; coiled ducts highly looped, following outer contour of membranous coils ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 41 – 48. 41 – 44 ).

Distribution. This species is only known from central Spain, around La Granja .
