The only species in this genus Buticulotrema stenauchenus Blend, Dronen & McEachran, 1993 , is reported from the macrourid fishes, the western softhead grenadier Malacocephalus occidentalis Goode & Bean , the common Atlantic grenadier Nezumia aequalis (Günther) and the glasshead grenadier Hymenocephalus italicus Giglioli , in the deep-waters of the Gulf of Mexico ( Blend et al. 1993, Blend in Klimpel et al. 2001).
