Body length 33.1–51.6 mm (♂); 32.2 mm (♀).

Description. Major male. Body reddish to brownish, metallic, head, including widest region of mandibular bases, 1.7× width of pronotum and elytra. Head reddish to brownish, weakly metallic, surface smooth, without setae; mandibles incurved at middle and apical 1/3; major inner mandibular tooth located approximately halfway to apex, sharply triangular and significantly protruding anteriorly but not inflated on either side; inner mandibular width narrowing immediately behind major inner mandibular tooth, forming an acute angle;>5 small inner mandibular teeth located at base of each mandible, usually three small inner mandibular teeth located between major mandibular tooth and apical fork; apical mandibular forks weakly developed, slightly open anteriorly, upper branches of apical fork 0.35× length of lower apical fork branches; anterolateral ridges of head rounded, posterolateral margin of head convex, slightly wider than anterolateral ridges; clypeolabrum developed, stout and short, trapezoidal, labrum triangular, weakly protruding along midlength and laterad labrum. Thorax brownish and metallic; surface smooth, without setae; convex at apex and base, significantly protruding at middle; 0.6× length of head and mandibles; prothoracic tibiae brownish, each bearing>5 well developed spines from apex to basal 1/3; mesothoracic tibiae brownish, each bearing two spines along midlength; metathoracic tibiae bright brownish, each bearing a single poorly developed spine at basal 1/3. Elytra brownish, surface smooth and strongly metallic; slender, widest at apical 1/3, strongly narrow at basal 1/3. Median male as major male except: head with major inner mandibular tooth stout and short, triangular, slightly pointing anteriorly; <3 small inner mandibular teeth located below major tooth. Minor male as major and median males except: head with mandibles straight, weakly incurved anteriorly; major inner mandibular tooth weakly developed to absent, single-pointed and not triangular; <2 poorly developed small inner mandibular teeth located below or above major tooth. Genitalia. Ventral plate of 9th abdominal segment widened behind cephalic base and not constricted before caudal expansion; basal piece usually well defined, 0.45–0.5× length of entire aedeagus; apical flagellum weakly enlarged, flagellum 0.5× length of entire aedeagus; aedeagus stout, incurved at basal 1/3, triangular distally.

Female. Body brownish to black, surface metallic, slender, usually smaller than major and median males, subequal in length or larger than minor male. Head black; surface punctate; mandibles incurved at apical 1/3; mandibular tooth well developed, asymmetrical; right mandibular tooth triangular, that of left mandibular smooth and convex along midlength; preocular and postocular margins weakly developed, forming acute angles, protruding anteriorly; clypeolabrum weakly developed, triangular, protruding along midlength. Thorax brownish to black, surface metallic; obscurely but densely punctate; anterior pronotum enlarged, forming broad angle, 1.2× width of posterolateral pronotum; prothoracic tibiae black, each bearing five spines from anterior to midlength; distal two spines sharp, strongly developed; prothoracic tibiae1.3× width of mesothoracic and metathoracic tibiae; mesothoracic tibiae black, each bearing two spines along midlength; metathoracic tibiae black, each bearing a single spine at basal 1/3. Elytra black, surface with metallic luster, concolorous with head and pronotum; oval, widest at apical 1/3, strongly narrow at basal 1/3.

Distribution. China (Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hunan).

Phenology. Adult specimens of L. szetchuanicus were collected from early June.

Natural history. Typical plants for this species are still unknown; however, L. szetchuanicus is highly attracted to light. Adult longevity is around 15–20 days.

Collecting methods. Light-trap collected.
