Type material. Lectotype: female (slide number 96,565) and 4 paralectotypes (by present designation): 1 female (slide number 96,562); 3 females (slide number 96,563 with four specimens: two specimens cut in half, one intact and one specimen of Heteraphorura subtenuis ); USA, Oregon, Portland, Glenn Harbor, Multnomah Co., I– 8140; R. L. Post, Lertmold; 28.VII.1940, leg. Chamberlain, R. W (Illinois Natural History Survey collection).

Redescription. Color white. Length (without antennae): females 1.7 mm. Body shape fusiform, with anal spines half as long as claw III ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Granulation of body surface regular, with more or less distinct areas of coarser granules.

Antennal bases well marked. Antennae nearly as long as head. Antennal segment IV with subapical organite and microsensillum located at the level of second row of posterior setae. Antennal III sense organ with 4 guard setae, 4 conical papillae, 2 sensory rods and 2 elongated and granulated sensory clubs ( Figs. 23 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Antennal segment III with small microsensillum slightly below antennal organ III.

Figures 16–21. Wandaphorura millsi : 16, dorsal chaetotaxy of head; 17, chaetotaxy of abdominal terga I and II; 18, arrangement of setae and pseudocellus on hind margin of head; 19, arrangement of pseudocelli on abdominal terga I–VI; 20, chaetotaxy of thoracic terga I and II; 21, chaetotaxy of abdominal terga V and VI.

PAO in a long cuticular groove with 2 acuminate border setae and 12 finely granulated vesicles ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Labial palp of AC type ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Pseudocellar formula 21/022/22233. Anterior cephalic pseudocelli located outside the delimited antennal basal area ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Posterior cephalic pseudocellus located on the back side of the granulated head capsule (Figs. 16 and 18). Thoracic and abdominal pseudocelli located in submedian position, which is typical for Hymenaphorurini, and in lateral position where parapseudocelli are normally found in Hymanaphorurini. Parapseudocellar formula ventral:?/000/1110? ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ) Each subcoxa1 with 1 parapseudocellus dorsally.

Thoracic terga II and III with lateral microsensilla. Dorsal chaetotaxy symmetric, well differentiated into macro- and mesosetae which are apically pointed (Figs. 16–18, 20, 21). Head with seta d0 present. Abdominal tergum V with p0 seta present, abdominal tergum VI with 2 medial setae. Subcoxae 1 I–III with 3, 5, 5 setae respectively. Meso- and metasternum each with with 1+1 setae. Ventral tube with 8+8 setae, without basal setae. Sensilla invisible.

Furca reduced to a small depression in the centre of abdominal sternum IV, with 2+2 small posterior setulae arranged in two rows ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Claw without inner and lateral denticles ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 22 – 27 ). Empodial appendage with a small basal lamella, half as long as inner edge of claw III. Distal whorl of on tibiotarsi with 11 setae. Males unknown.

Distribution. Outside the type locality, also recorded from Benton Co. ( USA, Oregon, 8 miles west of Corvallis, 22.XI.1949, collector unknown; K. Christiansen in litt.).
