Type material. Holotype ♀, SOUTH AFRICA: Northern Cape, Kuruman, Upperby, 27º24’S, 23º04’E, 24.I.2004, C. Haddad leg. ( NMBA 9634).

Etymology. The specific name is an adjective derived from the type locality.

Diagnosis. Cheiramiona upperbyensis sp. nov. is similar to C. boschrandensis sp. nov. in the posterior lip-like extention of epigastric fold and the length and direction of the copulatory tubes, but is differentiated by the shape of the epigynal depression (transverse as opposed to Y-shaped) and the narrower, more strongly curved SPER ( Figs 5–6 View FIGURES 1 – 12. 1 – 3 , 95–96 View FIGURES 85 – 96. 85 – 90 ).

Description. Female (n = 1): TL = 4.5; CL = 2.0; CW = 1.5; OAL = 0.35; OAW = 0.9; CLL = 0.05. Chelicerae: robust with long fangs; cheliceral fang furrow with five to six teeth, PMT:RMT = 3:2 to 4:2 ( Fig. 94 View FIGURES 85 – 96. 85 – 90 ). Measurements: AME–AME 0.10; AME–ALE 0.15; AME diameter 0.15; PME–PME 0.15; PME–PLE 0.20; PME diameter 0.15; MOQAW 0.40; MOQPW 0.45; CI (CL/CW) 1.33; LL:CL 4.55; STL 0.9; STW 0.9. Leg measurements: I—2.5+0.9+2.2+2.5+1.0 = 9.1; II—1.6+0.7+1.2+1.5+0.5 = 5.5; III—1.3+0.6+0.9+1.2+0.45 = 4.45; IV—2.0+0.7+1.6+1.8+0.5 = 6.6; Palp—0.8+0.35+0.5+0.7 = 2.35. Leg spines: I—0, 0, 2v- 0- 1 v; II—0, 0, 0-0- 1 v; III—0, 0, 0-1 v1 p1r-3 v1 p1r; IV—0, 0-1r-0, 1v-2 v1 p1r-3 v1 p1r. Abdomen: creamy-yellow with faint heart mark. Epigynum ( Figs 95–96 View FIGURES 85 – 96. 85 – 90 ): wider than long, with small, transverse depression; copulatory openings situated posterior-laterally in depression; epigastric fold forming lip-like extension that is expanded anterior-medially; internally, short copulatory ducts proceed posteriorly then laterally before ending in median part of SPER; fertilization tubes enter SPER posterior-medially. Male: unknown.

Distribution. Only known from the type locality ( Fig. 102 View FIGURES 101 – 102 ).

Habitat. Collected by beating bushes.
