scientific name

Lobelia inflata L.
status

Lobelia inflata Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 931. 1753.

“Habitat in Virginia, Canada.” RCN: 6752.

Lectotype (designated here by Reveal): [icon] “ Lobelia caule erecto, foliis ovatis subserratis pedunculo longioribus, capsulis inflatis” in Linnaeus in Acta Soc. Regiae Sci. Upsal. 1741: 23, t. 1. 1741 (see p. 84).

Current name: Lobelia inflata L. ( Campanulaceae ).

Note: McVaugh (in Rhodora 38: 232. 1936) indicated 1051.26 (LINN) as type, but the sheet lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “12”) and was a post-1753 addition to the collection and is not original material for the name.
