Aufidellus Kirkaldy, 1906 , Distant 1908: 97

When Stål described Aufidus View in CoL , he used the following characters to characterise the genus: ocelli really close to each other, a sexangular pronotum, veins of tegmina distinct, protibia a bit longer than profemur and a strong spine around middle of metatibia. No other strong characters are added in the later works ( Lallemand 1912; Distant 1916; Jacobi 1921) until the description of Aufidius egregius Schmidt, 1928 . Here Schmidt mentioned a dimple on the protibia. In 1939, Lallemand described 3 Aufidus View in CoL species and each time described the dimple as being present. In 1949, in his Rhinaulacini key, he used this character to separate the sub-tribe Aufidina from the others, especially from the Colsina, which can occur in a common area, Java and Borneo. In the redescription of the genus he added details such as postclypeus in lateral view making no acute angle, rostrum relatively short, a large pronotum without any keels, Cu and R fused on first third of tegmen, R bifurcate at level of second third.

The Aufidus have a really large distribution area that stretches from Java to the Samoa islands ( Lallemand 1949).
