Mus auritus Lichtenstein, 1830 (ZMB_MAM 1688)

Specimen ZMB _MAM 1688 (skin, skull) ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 a), here identified as Akodon sp., has a label that reads “ typus von Calomys auritus Lichtenstein.” Lichtenstein (1830) described Mus auritus (not Mus auritus Fischer, 1814 ) based on a skin and skull collected in Rio de Janeiro. Although the description and plates are sufficient to make the name available, we could not identify the material to the species level, therefore, we are unable to correctly allocate this type.
