Mus nigrita Lichtenstein, 1829 (ZMB_MAM 1698)
Specimen ZMB _MAM 1698 includes a relatively well-preserved skin, missing some hairs in the rostral region ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 b), a skull missing the basicranium and the posterior braincase, and two mandibular rami, with the coronoid missing on the left ramus. The holotype, by monotypy, was collected by Sellow and Olfers. Lichtenstein (1830) stated that the specimen came from “ der Gegend von Rio de Janeiro ”, and the label and Generalkatalog read “ Rio de Janeiro . ” Thus, we can safely assume that the type locality of Mus nigrita lies in the state of Rio de Janeiro .
