LeConte (1861: 187, as Malthini ), generally accepted as in Lawrence and Newton (1995: 860, as Malthininae ); this family-group name was also used in the same year by Motschulsky (1852: 1, as Malthinides ) but this vernacular name is unavailable (Art. 11.7.2) because it is not generally attributed to Motschulsky (1852).
