Diagnosis. Large, dark brown; pronotum low, weakly sinuate dorsally; suprahumeral horns short, horizontal; posterior process with 2 lateral spines small, shorter than the suprahumeral horns.

Measurements (mm). Male. Total length: 9.67; pronotal length 7.92; tegmina length 6.67; width between humeral angles 3.08; width between apices of suprahumeral horns 4.00; maximum width between apices of posterior process 1.92; head width 2.83; head length 0.92.

Description. Holotype male. Almost entirely dark brown; head castaneous; tegmina yellowish hyaline.

Head triangular, about 2x wider than long, sculptured, smooth and brilliant, covered with sparse, short, and erect hairs. Eyes globose, almost pedunculate. Ocelli large, equidistant from each other and eyes, located just below transocular line. Vertex with superior margin arched; suprantennal ledges short, rounded. Postclypeus diamond-shaped, apex ovoid, extended 2/3 its length below margins of suprantennal ledges.

Pronotum low, roughly punctured, covered with sparse and short hairs; metopidium convex, slightly inclined forwards from base; median carina well marked, rounded, extended from metopidium to posterior process until mid of median spine. Suprahumeral horns short, conical, horizontal, with apices curved posteriorly. Median swelling obsolete, only distinguished by small impression behind metopidium and weak constriction at base of posterior process. Posterior process not globose, with lateral spine small, shorter than suprahumeral horns, about as long as its width at base; median spine stout, slightly prismatic at base, parallel to internal margin of tegmina.

Female. Unknown.

Holotype male. “ COSTA RICA, | vol. Turrialba | 1500m viii.1981 |V. O. Becker coll ” (DZUP). Paratypes: 2 males, with the same label data as holotype. (DZUP).

Comments. Poppea turrialbae sp. nov. is a large species, almost entirely dark-brown, with head and part of thorax yellowish-castaneous. It is distinguished in having the pronotum not elevated and nearly straight dorsally, somewhat tectiform due to the evident dorsal median carina, and lacking mid and posterior swellings. The two posterior lateral spines are very short and conical.
