Names.

Myanmar: kan-tin, mawk-kham, taw-mevaing. Hawaiian: sakina. English: kathu.

Range.

Pakistan, India, Myanmar, China, Siam, and Indochina. In Myanmar, found in Bago, Chin, Mandalay, and Shan.

Use.

Roots: Used for coughs.

Notes.

In India the powdered root of this species is externally applied for chest pain; a decoction of the root is used for coughs. Medicinal uses for several other species belonging to this genus are also discussed ( Jain and DeFilipps 1991).
