Lamium album Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 579. 1753.

“Habitat in Europae cultis.” RCN: 4221.

Lectotype (Mennema in Rechinger, Fl. Iranica 150: 323. 1982): Herb. Linn. No. 733.10 (LINN).

Generitype of Lamium Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 165. 1929).

Current name: Lamium album L. (Lamiaceae).

Note: Lamium purpureum was treated as the generitype by Britton & Brown ( Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2, 3: 121. 1913; see McNeill & al. in Taxon 36: 376. 1987). However, under Art. 10.5, Ex. 7 (a voted example) of the Vienna Code, this is a type choice made under the American Code and is to be replaced under Art. 10.5b by Green’s choice ( Prop. Brit. Bot.: 165. 1929) of L. album L. Hedge & Lamond (in Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 28: 90. 1968) indicated unspecified material at LINN as type but this did not distinguish between sheets 733.8, 733.9 and 733.10. They are not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply.
