Head and thorax greenish yellow. Crown of vertex with two small light brown spots near apex, two squarish light brown patches one on either side of coronal sulcus behind transverse furrow touching inner margin of eye. Face pale brown. Eyes dark brown with greenish yellow tinge. Pronotum mottled with dark brown patches on disc. Basal triangles of scutum light brown. Forewings with distinct median spot having dark brown margin on anterior half, lateral large elongate spot and posterior corner.
Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view longer than its height, posterior margin conically rounded, macrosetae confined to posterior half. Valve approximately 2.5 times as wide as long. Subgenital plate with terminal fingerlike process 0.33 as long as total length. Style abruptly narrowed in middle, approximately thrice as long as wide at base, preapical lobe fairly well developed with a few hairlike setae, apophysis stout and blunt. Connective with stem stout and truncate posteriorly, arms bulged and longer than stem. Aedeagus without basal processes, shafts directed posterodorsally, divergent in posterior view, each shaft with short, stout, fingerlike process at apex, abruptly turned anteriorly, triangular lamellate expansion on lateral margin near midlength; gonopore subapical.
Female genitalia. Female seventh sternite 3.2 times as broad at base as long medially, posterior margin sinuate with troughlike excavation medially, posterolateral angles conically rounded. First pair of valvulae broadened slightly beyond base and then narrowed. Second pair of valvulae with irregular teeth, some without secondary dentition on dorsoapical margin, ventroapical margin serrated.
Measurements. Male 3.7–3.8 mm long 1.22 mm wide across eyes. Female 3.9–4.0 mm long, 1.20–1.28 mm wide.
Material examined. NEPAL: Kathmandu, 3 ♂, 3 ♀, 23.vii., 5.ix, 26.xii.1978, V.K. Thapa; 1 ♂, Gokarna Forest, 14, xi.1979, I. Dworakowska; 3 ♂, Kokani, Takha, 28.x–14.xi.1978, V.K. Thapa ( UASB).
Remarks. H. gillespiei was described from the holotype male and one male paratype from Thailand (not examined). It is recorded here for the first time from India. This species resembles H. araii Okada but can be distinguished by the robust stem and arms of the connective, stout and laterally directed apophysis of style, and by the aedeagal shaft with blunt, anteriorly strongly curved fingerlike apical process. Externally it resembles the sympatric species, H. thapai sp. nov. in coloration and can be recognised by the anterior margin of the median spot on the forewing dark brown, and the female seventh sternite with the posterior margin medially broadly excavated.
