Legs with dark brown spots at bases of setae, femora in some females dark fuscous, in male paler.
Male genitalia: Pygofer in lateral view longer than its height, posterior margin conically rounded, macrosetae confined to posterior half. Valve more than twice as wide at base as long. Subgenital plate with rows of macrosetae approximately as long as total length of plate, terminal process about 0.33 as long as total length. Style more than thrice as long as wide at base, preapical lobe fairly well developed with a few hairlike setae, apophysis stout, directed posteriorly. Stem of connective stout, cylindrical, shorter than arms. Aedeagus with pair of basal processes to shafts diverging from each other from base, about 0.33 length of shaft; dorsal apodeme well developed; each shaft divergent at basal half then converging in posterior view and broadened distally; in lateral view anterior margin convexly rounded at midlength, margin crenulate; with lamellate process along mesal margin terminating at base of filamentous process into rounded lobe, filamentous process in posterior view mesally curved, in lateral view dorsally directed and basal process projecting beyond the curvature of the shaft posteriorly; gonopore subapical.
Female genitalia. Seventh sternite 2.7 times as broad at base as long medially, posterior margin slightly concave with a median notch, posterolateral angles acutely rounded.
Measurements. Male 3.3–3.6 mm long and 1.0– 1.1 mm wide across eyes; Female 3.8 mm long and 1.2 mm wide across eyes.

Remarks. This is a very common species in and around Bangalore. It breeds on Ocimum tenuiflorum L. f. ( Lamiaceae ) ( Figs 39–41 View FIGURES 39 – 41 ). Externally it resembles H. bengalensis (Distant) in coloration but the median spot is bordered by discontinuous dark brown. It can readily be distinguished by the rounded lobe mesad of the gonopores on the aedeagal shafts.
