Hishimonus acuminatus View in CoL sp. nov.
Figs 3–4 View FIGURES 1 – 12 , 54–59 View FIGURES 54 – 71 .
Head, pronotum and scutellum yellowish brown with green tinge, anterior area of pronotum more yellowish. Transverse stripes on frons, spot on clypeus below bases of antennae, pale brown. Scutellum infuscated with pale brown at some places. Forewings creamy white with pale brown mottling between veins, distal half of apical cells more darkly mottled; median spot well defined but pale brown without dark brown margin. Legs ochraceous, bases of setae on tibiae pale brown.
Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view longer than its height, posterior margin broadly rounded, macrosetae confined to posterior submargin; valve about 1.7 as broad at base as long medially, with broadly rounded posterior margin. Subgenital plates with well defined posterior fingerlike process about 0.37 as long as total length, lateral margin convex. Male style about three times as long as wide at base, with rather straight apophysis, subapical lobe well defined. Connective with stem longer than arms. Aedeagus without basal processes to shafts, dorsal apodeme well developed; shafts divergent in posterior view and widened distally, in lateral view mesal anterior margin angled near base and beyond that crenulate in basal half, with lamellate process along mesal margin terminating at base of filamentous process into a rounded lobe, filamentous process in posterior view mesally and then anteriorly curved, in lateral view anteriorly curved; gonopore subapical.
Measurements. Male 3.6 mm long and 1.5 mm wide across eyes.
Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♂, INDIA: Mizoram: Kolasib, 26.iv.2012, Hg [mercury vapour] light, Rony, K. ( NPC).
Remarks. H. acuminatus resembles H. alstoni Knight from Celebes and H. festivus Knight from Christmas Island, in that each aedeagal shaft terminates in a filamentous process. However, the three species differ in the shape of the shaft: in H. acuminatus the shaft slightly widens distally before the gonopore and in the other two species it is of uniform width and widens abruptly either mesally (in H. alstoni ) or laterally (in H. festivus ) before attaining the gonopore.
