Hishimonus aberrans Knight View in CoL
Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 12 , 42–53 View FIGURES 42 – 53 .
Hishimonus aberrans Knight, 1970a: 137 View in CoL –138, figs 68–71.
Head, pronotum and scutellum yellow, irregularly marked with pale brown. Forewings creamy white with dark brown mottling between veins, more rich on middle area of subapical and distal half of apical cells; median spot poorly defined with dark brown anterior margin. Femora infuscated or at least with two fuscous rings. Hind femora and tibiae infuscated, outer ventral margin paler, bases of seta on tibiae dark brown.
Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view longer than its height, posterior margin conically rounded, macrosetae confined to posterior half. Valve approximately twice as wide at base as long medially. Subgenital plate with terminal fingerlike process narrow, about 0.33 as long as total length of plate. Connective with stem short, approximately half as long as arms. Style with poorly developed preapical lobe, more than thrice as long as wide at base; apophysis long, directed posteriorly with acute apex, about 0.33 as long as total length of style. Aedeagal shafts directed dorsocaudad, each with short fingerlike process at tip turned abruptly anteriorly; gonopores subapical on posterior surface; pair of elongate acute processes arising basally from posterior surface of shafts, extending to near midlength of latter, not visible in lateral view.
Measurements. Male 3.5–3.6 mm long, 1.23–1.25 mm wide across eyes.
Material examined. INDIA: Mizoram: 2 ♂, Lunglei, 20.xi.1981, C.S. Wesley ( UASB).
Remarks: H. aberrans was described from a single male from Taiwan (examined). It is recorded here for the first time from India. The specimens from Lunglei differ from the type in having the male plate gradually narrowed and the basal processes of the aedeagal shaft serrated mesally and not visible in lateral aspect; however, these differences are probably geographical variations. This species resembles H. longisetosus sp. nov. and H. thapai sp. nov. and can be differentiated based on the characters given in the key.
