Rhagovelia aiuruoca View in CoL is the only representative of the obesa group sensu Polhemus (1997) known from South America ( Moreira & Ribeiro 2009). It is herein recorded from Preto River, which serves as a border between Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro states in the region of the Maciço de Itatiaia.

Examined material. BRAZIL: Minas Gerais / Rio de Janeiro – Bocaina de Minas / Itatiaia, Preto River , Poção do Maromba , 16.XII.2006, (F. F. F. Moreira, V. P. Alecrim & R. B. Braga): 9 apterous males, 2 macropterous males, 6 apterous females, 2 macropterous females ( DZRJ) ; Maringá, Rio Preto , 04.X.1993, (L. F. Dorvillé & J. L. Nessimian): 2 apterous males, 2 macropterous males, 2 macropterous females ( DZRJ) .
