Stomis schoenmanni Sciaky, 1998 View in CoL

Loc. typ.: NW Yunnan, Yulongshan NP near Baishui.

= Stomis elongatus Tian & Pan, 2004 View in CoL syn. nov.

Loc. typ.: Northern Yunnan, Fuhe, Lajing, Lanping Xian.

Tian and Pan (2004) described a new species from northern Yunnan, Stomis elongatus (loc. typ. Lajing, Lanping Xian). This species was correctly inserted in the group comprising S. chinensis (sensu Sciaky, 1998, corresponding to S. bousqueti , herewith described), S. robustus and S. schoenmanni , but distinguished from all of them on the basis of three character states: the reduced eyes, the long neck and the parallel elytra. Comparing it to the species of this group, its great resemblance to S. schoenmanni is evident. I had previously examined a female specimen from the same locality, verifying that it cannot be separated from this species. S. schoenmanni is known from two localities in northern Yunnan, not far from the type locality of S. elongatus and is rather variable in shape of elytra, while the reduced eyes and long neck are identical. Therefore, I propose the synonymy:

Stomis elongatus Tian & Pan, 2004 View in CoL = S. schoenmanni Sciaky, 1998 View in CoL syn. nov.

Description. Habitus as in Fig. 20 View FIGURES 17–20 . The combination of characters allowing to distinguish this species are: length 10.2–12.1 mm; integuments black, rather shiny; body convex; femora and tibiae blackish, tarsi and antennae reddish, long and slender; head large, with mandibles distinctly longer than the rest of the head; pronotum anteriorly rather broad, with lateral margins evidently constricted then rectilinear towards the base; anterior angles acutely projecting forward, posterior angles strictly rounded; elytra rather narrow, oval, with all striae rather deep; shoulders angulate and with a small tooth. Median lobe of aedeagus very small, with apical portion slightly longer than basal portion; in lateral view very thin and slightly raised upwards before apex, in dorsal view constricted and short, with apical lamella short, pointed and asymmetrical ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 43–47 ). Ratios: El/Pl = 2.04; Ew/Pw = 1.27; El/Ew = 1.49.

Distribution. Northern and Western Yunnan.
