Identification. The main distinctive character of C. surinamensis is the unusual pattern of disposal of the leaves on the stem, with basal and terminal tufts, and leaves adpressed along the stem. Each of these arrangements exhibit leaves of differing morphology and anatomy. Bri- ocenological group: saxicolous.
Brazilian range. AM, BA, ES, GO, MA, MG, MS, MT, PA, PI, PR, RJ, RO, SC, SP (broadly distributed).
