Annual herb. Leaves alternate, coriaceous to fleshy. Flowers bisexual, compressed in (1-)3-flowered cymes borne in axils of long, densely imbricate bracts; perianth lobes 5, united below middle, 2-3 of them navicular, with oblong wings in upper part; stamens 5; stigmas 2-3. Seeds vertical. One sp., A. Iehmannii Bunge , C Asia.
