Genus Dexosarcophaga Townsend, 1917 View in CoL

The predominantly Neotropical genus Dexosarcophaga Townsend contains 46 described species distributed in three subgenera: Dexosarcophaga Townsend , Farrimyia Dodge , and Bezzisca Lopes ( Pape 1996) . The subgenus Bezzisca was recently revised by Silva and Mello-Patiu (2010), who described a new species, and provided illustrations of male terminalia and a key. This subgenus comprises 16 described species, nine of them recorded from Brazil but only one from the Brazilian Amazon ( Pape 1996; Silva & Mello-Patiu 2010). Biological observations on Dexosarcophaga are fragmentary, and some species have been found associated with ant and termite nests ( Lopes 1968; Mello 1996; Pape & Dahlem 2010).
