Amended diagnosis: The family Ptolemaiidae is a group of Ptolemaiida with the following characteristics: metaconule present on P4; upper molars mesiodistally short and without mesial and distal cingula; bases of paracone and metacone fused on upper molars; postprotocrista of M1 and M2 do not meet with the metacone; large hypoconid is present in p4; mesiodistally short talonid basins on lower molars m1–m3; m3 paraconid closely situated to metaconid; molariform teeth decrease in length from p4 to m3 (modified asser Cote et al. 2007, Gunnell et al. 2010).
