Type Locality: "South Seas".
Vernacular Names: Short-finned Pilot Whale.
Synonyms: Globicephala brachypterus Cope 1876 ; Globicephala scammonii Cope 1869 ; Globicephala sieboldii Gray 1846 .
Distribution: Worldwide: tropical and warm-temperate waters; cold-temperate waters of the N Pacific, where it appears to stray as far north as the Gulf of Alaska ( Pike and MacAskie, 1969).
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (cd).
