Distribution: Mexico (West coastal regions from Sinaloa to Oaxaca).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Reviewed by Medellín et al. (1998 a), from which synonyms are allocated. Ewer (1973) argued that pygmaea is conspecific with putorius .
