Gryllotalpa obscura Chopard, 1966
Distribution: Nepal (Dhankuta)
Gryllotalpa orientalis Burmeister, 1838 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 2 – 20 )
= Gryllotalpa africana = Gryllotalpa fossor (synonym of G. africana ) ( Chopard, 1968)
Remarks. There is some confusion regarding this species and G. africana and G. fossor . Gryllotalpa africana , considered a very common species in Africa, was recorded in various parts of Oriental region by Chopard (1931). Later Chopard (1968) noted that all G. africana should be more correctly placed under G. fossor . At around the same time ( Chopard, 1968), he conceded that species identified as G. fossor should be more correctly identified as G. orientalis . In the revision by Townsend (1983), G. fossor is synonymised under G. africana . Distribution: East Timor, Flores, India, Myanmar, Nepal (Bagmati, Gandaki, Narayani), Pakistan, Peninsular Malaysia (KL & Pahang), Philippines Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sumba, Taiwan (Taichung)
Type locality: Philippines
