Material. Holotype, NIGP203460 View Materials , an isolated forewing without clavus; deposited in the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology , Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing, China.

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word ‘ macula ’, indicating its holotype with a distinctive marking on the forewing.

Diagnosis. As for the genus (monospecific) with additional characters: tegmen covered with dark markings at costal area, basal and terminal parts of postcostal cell, cell C5, and apical portion of tegmen; several elliptical or irregular dark-coloured patches present.

Type locality and horizon. Near Hejiafang Village , Jinsuoguan Township , Yintai District , Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, China; lower part of the Yanchang Formation; late Middle Triassic .

Description. Tegmen length 13.5 mm; costal margin arched; apical margin rounded; bScP smoothly arched; Pc relatively short, extending to RA 2 terminals; MP+CuA stalk relatively long; stem R curved at base, forked at basal 0.46 of tegmen length; RA forking into RA 1 and RA 2 basad of MP forking; RA 1 oblique, long, only slightly shorter than stem RA; RA 2 pectinately forked, with five terminal branches; RP sinuous, unbranched; stem MP almost straight, forked slightly basad of CuA forking, at basal 0.63 of tegmen length, with five terminal branches; stem CuA curved at base; 2nd section CuA 1 about 2.4 times as long as 1st section of CuA 1, 1st section of CuA 1 about 1.7 times as long as crossvein mp-cua; mp-cua longer than ir, rp-mp, and im; cua-cup obscure, presumably connecting fusion of MP and CuA at a single point or slightly before it; basal cell unclear; postcostal cell broad, much wider than median cell and radial cell. Tegmen covered with a distinctive colour pattern: dark markings at costal area, basal and terminal parts of postcostal cell, along Pc, and at apical 3/4 of tegmen; several elliptical or irregular dark-coloured patches present at radial cell, median cell, cubital cell, and cell C1; and cell C5 darkened. Distinctive tiny punctures evenly distribute in basal half of postcostal cell, basal radial and median cells, cubital cell, and along basal half of RP and MP.
