Eucoleus sp. (1)
Site of infection. small intestine
Collection number. MLP-He7327
Host species. Akodon montensis . CG145
Localities. PPU and RVSU
Comments. The morphological characters observed in the specimens agree with the description of the genus Eucoleus , i.e. males without caudal alae, distal end with two small, posteriorly directed rounded lobes and connected by a reduced membrane, spinous spicular sheath, and females with non-elevated vulva. Nevertheless, the material collected is not well conserved to allow identification at species level. It is to be noted that the specimens were found in the small intestine, despite being the stomach the most common site of infection of the genus ( Moravec, 1982).
This is the first record of the genus Eucoleus in A. montensis and the second record for Argentina ( Robles et al. 2008).
