Type material. HOLOTYPE, M, allotype F (all macropterous): COLOMBIA, Nariño, Tumaco, Consejo Comunitario Río Mejicano, Vereda Bella Vista, 0 m, 5 II 2009, leg. D. N. Padilla ( ICN). PARATYPES, same data as holotype, all macropterous, 2 M, 3 F ( ICN), 3 M, 3 F (PSO-CZ), 1 M, 4 H (CP).

Macropterous forms. Dimensions. Male, length 9.40, maximum width 2.32. Female, length, 11.6, maximum width 2.96.

General color yellow-brown, head with brown line on anterolateral margins of eye. Pronotum yellowbrown, anterior lobe with median line pale yellow; posterior portion of posterior lobe with dark brown stripe, covered with fine, short, recumbent, gold setae; pro-pleural region with a gold stripe, followed by a brown one. Hemelytra darker than pronotum, clothed with fine, short, recumbent, gold setae, except on membrane, and with darker veins. Venter pale yellow. Antennae and legs dark yellow. Rostrum pale brown and last segment black. Female with meso- and meta- acetabulae with silvery spots.

Proportions of male: length of antennal segments I–IV: 1.26, 1.26, 2.73, 4.40. Legs as follows: fore femur/ tibia/ tarsal 1/ tarsal 2: 2.80/2.20/0.36/0.40; middle femur, femur/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2: 8.10/5.33/3.12/0.42; hind femur/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2: 8.10/2.72/0.76/0.38.

Proportions of female: length of antennal segments I–IV: 1.48, 1.24, 2.60, 4.26. Legs as follows: fore femur/tibia/ tarsal1/ tarsal 2: 3.40/2.76/0.48/0.48; middle femur, femur/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2: 9.33/6.93/3.88/ 0.56; hind femur/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2: 9.33/3.92/1.02/0.52.

Male. Structural characteristics. Pronotum moderately constricted between anterior and posterior lobe; rostrum almost reaching middle of mesosternum, last with narrow and moderately deep channel; metasternum with prominent carina. Fore and posterior femur slightly curved ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ). Abdominal tergites VII and VIII elevated ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ); sternite VII, with caudal margin trapeze-shaped; connexiva slightly produced with triangular-shape; sternite VIII slightly longer than two preceding abdominal sternites combined (0.48), caudal margin slightly produced medially ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ). Second genital segment (proctiger), dorsal plate conical; pygophore with dorsal margin slightly concave ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ). Vesica, dorsal part with apical half very narrow, curved and apex strongly acuminate ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ).

Female: mesosternal central channel and metasternal carina distinctively less pronounced than in male. Fore and posterior femur almost straight. Connexiva moderately long, triangular. Length of sternite VIII as long as two preceding abdominal sternites combined (0.96). Margin of last abdominal sternite protruding, slightly exceeding connexival spines, and with rounded apex ( Figs. 11, 12 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ).

Ecological notes: The type series was collected from artificial, small, stagnant pools.

Etymology: The name “ tumaquensis ” refers to the Colombian municipality of Tumaco, from which the types were collected.

Comparative notes: Members of this species resemble those of T. opacus (Champion) , from which it can be separated by tergites VII and VIII being upward in the male (compare Figs. 8, 13 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ); middle and posterior femur equal in length, in males and females; middle femur longer than posterior in T. opacus ; last sternite abdominal rounded produced ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 7 – 13 ); narrowed and triangularly produced in T. opacus . T. tumaquensis with length of antennal segment I equal II and I slightly more than one-third of length of IV; length of antennal segment I longer than II and I half of IV in T. opacus . Tachygerris tumaquensis longer than T. opacus (macropterous form M, length/width 9.0/2.4).

Females. T. tumaquensis , length of sternite VIII as long as two preceding abdominal sternites combined (0.96); T. opacus , length of each sternite VI and VII, represents three-fifths length of sternite VIII (0.94).
