Megasiobla zenaida Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1930: 86, Ƥ, holotype, Ƥ, "Chandaochedzy" [Handaohezi, 250 km E Harbin] (Heilongjiang, China).

Redescription. Ƥ. Length, 13–17 mm ( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 g, 7h). Body metallic blue; palpi dirty brown, labrum, middle of mandible, apical 4 antenomeres, apical margin of each coxa, and most of each trochanter yellowish white; fore and middle femora, tibiae and tarsi yellowish brown, hind femur, tibia and tarsus orange brown, cerci and apex of ovipositor sheath orange brown. Forewing yellowish hyaline with apical 1/4 infuscated, stigma pale brown to dark brown, vein C brown, other veins blackish brown; hind wing yellowish brown with apex slightly infuscated. Hairs on dorsum of head and of thorax brown, hairs on pleuron pale.

Punctures on clypeus, inner orbit, frons, and postocellar area dense and coarse; punctures on postorbit fine and dense, temple nearly impunctate, shiny ( Fig. 22 View FIGURE 22 e); punctures on lateral parts of prescutum small and sparse, mesoscutellum densely and coarsely punctured, posttergite shiny; metascutellum densely punctured; punctures on mesepisternum coarse and dense, mesepimeron microsculptured with upper margin densely punctured, most of metepisternum impunctate, shiny, except several fine punctures and microsculpture on dorsal margin, posterior corner of metepimeron shiny; 1st abdominal tergite polished with anterior margin microsculptured and lateral parts shallowly punctured, 2nd to 9th tergites with transverse microsculpture, 10th tergite polished.

Hairs on dorsum of head straight, slightly shorter than transverse diameter of median ocellus, hairs on mesoscutellum equal to transverse diameter of median ocellus, hairs on other parts of dorsum of thorax distinctly shorter than transverse diameter of median ocellus, hairs on pleuron 1.1 ×transverse diameter of median ocellus. Anterior margin of clypeus truncate; malar space 0.8 × transverse diameter of median ocellus; lower interocular distance equal to eye height; anterior margin of supraantennal tubercle weakly elevated, frontal ridge distinct; middle fovea smaller than frontal basin, lateral fovea pit like, deep; interocellar and postocellar furrows deep and shallow; postocellar area elevated, as high as top of ocelli, with an obscure middle carina, about 1.5 × as broad as long; lateral furrows slightly curved outwards, divergent posteriorly; head behind eyes 0.7 × eyes in length in dorsal view. Antenna 1.3 × head and thorax combined and 0.9 × abdomen in length. Mesoscutellum elevated, anterior slope with a fine middle carina; posttergite and metascutellum each with an obtuse middle carina; mesepisternum elevated, ventral spur short but obvious. Metabasitarsus 3.8 × as long as broad, 0.8 × length of remaining 4 tarsomeres combined; hind inner tibial spur 0.4 × length of metabasitarsus. Ovipositor sheath 0.8 × length of middle tibia, apical sheath and basal sheath subequal in length; lancet as in Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 h; apical and 4th to 6th serrulae as in Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 b.

Male: Length, 13–14.5 mm ( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 h, 7i). Similar to female in structure and color, but lower interocular distance 0.8 × eye height; malar space 0.4 × transverse diameter of median ocellus; head behind eyes distinctly narrowing posteriorly; left side of head and of anterior half of thorax as Fig. 22 View FIGURE 22 f; subgenital plate as long as broad, apex round, genitalia as in Figs 14 View FIGURE 14 m, 15m.

Variation. In both sexes, variation in the size of the yellowish white mark on venter of each coxa may range from very large to missing. There is variation in the shape of mesoscutellum in lateral view, ranging from roundly to pyramidally elevated (usually pyramidally elevated). The color of the valvifer 1 of female varies from entirely orange to entirely metallic blue. Hairs on dorsum of body nearly orange in the examined specimens from R. O. Korea.

Distribution. China (Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hunan, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan); Korea (Gangwon–do, Gyonggi–do, Chungcheongbuk–do and Gyongsangbug–do); Russia (Primorskij kraj).

Remarks. Dovnar-Zapolskij (1930) described Megasiobla zenaida upon a single female, and proposed a new genus, Megasiobla Dovnar-Zapolskij, for it. The holotype, labelled “Mandtschuria Chandaoehedzy 26.VI. 914” (sic!), “Megasiobla Zenaida typus. m. D. DOVNAR det.” is housed in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St Petersburg. Dr Alexey Zinovjev (St Petersburg) provided us with photographs of the holotype. Right front and middle leg, hind tarsi and 9th antennomere of left antenna missing, otherwise in good condition. The photographs support our interpretation of the species.

Malaise synonymized Megasiobla with Siobla ( Malaise 1934) . Malaise (1945) recorded 6Ƥ and 233 from Beijing, Heilongjiang Prov. and Sichuan Prov. Siobla zenaida was reported from central and south of R. O. Korea by Lee et al. (2000). Wei and Nie (2003) mentioned it as a new record of Henan Province. It was reported from South of the Russian Far East by Lelej and Taeger (2007). S. zenaida is allied to S. caerulea . See the above key for the differences between the two species.
